Spain. Ayamonte is the southwestern most city in Spain, across the river
from Vila Real de Santo António, Portugal. Arriving at the eastern
terminus of the Portuguese railway in Villa Real, from Faro, we crossed the river Guadiana,
by ferry to Spain. Ayamonte is a beautiful, small and clean town, with nice
restaurants and bars, beaches, hotels, boating and river excursions. By
road, the highway continues on the Atlantic coast eastward to Huelva and
onward to Seville.
